This week in my EME 5050 class we were given the task of making a teacher-created curriculum page on the Wiki page that we were asked to set up last week. As posted in my last blog, I decided to create my curriculum page on famous African American. My dream project was for my current and future class to create a digital storytelling presentation based on the research that they complied.
Early this week I returned to the Wiki webpage that I had set up I was quite confused and baffled about how to set up my page. I felt lost and stupid. I had no idea what I was doing and how to add the information on the empty web page. So I decided to write everything up that I wanted to include on my curriculum page for my students and then I copied and pasted everything on the edit page.
I was having the most difficult time figuring out how to create and link each page together. So I decided at this current time to leave it the way it is for now and then I’ll take my time later to familiarize myself with my curriculum page. I hate the fact that I can’t figure out how to navigate from one page to the other. Anyway, I also include a digital storytelling example so that my students can have an idea on how to create one of their own. After I have edit and felt satisfy with my information, I decided to view it and realize that my digital story was not working. Below the digital story, you can click on the link and it should take you directly to the story.
I am not pleased that I was struggling with this assignment. I am usually technology savvy and I am quick learner when it comes to technology. Anyway, I hope you like my curriculum page and digital story even though you can’t see it directly from the web page.
Well here is the link to my curriculum:
Carrene,
ReplyDeleteI think it is safe to say that this week's assignment was rough on just about all of us. You are by no means alone. However, I really admired how you persevered through the troubles you had and still put something together. Sure, it didn't really go as planned, and you're still a bit frustrated with your end result, but I am impressed. I was so focused on getting links and information for a more general audience (since I am without a class), that I let other things like rubrics and examples wait for when they're required in this course.
Yes, your page may be a little sparse on the design, but it is full of fantastic information and resources. I wholeheartedly understood when you said: "I am not pleased that I was struggling with this assignment. I am usually technology savvy and I am quick learner when it comes to technology." I felt exactly this same way, but one thing I love about technology is that it never allows me to be complacent. There is always something new to learn and something different to be frustrated with before I master it. You did a great job, and I know your culminating project will be fantastic.
Oh, I feel your pain!! I was having so many problems with this and trying to figure out widgets and how to work them I was going nuts. If this helps, I added a webquest link and created a webquest through one of the webquest programs. After hours of trying to create pages I gave up. I looked through all turotials and couldn't find the answer. I share my experience with you becaue I think we were all frustrated this week. Your project looks good. What grade are you teaching for this project? Just curious because I would love to do something like this for primary grades. I guess I could take the info you have and tweak the reuirements for primary grades. I look forward to your final project and don't get discouraged. Even the most computer savvy person runs into kinks now and then.
ReplyDeleteYour story sounds like mine and some other bloggers. Good luck with succeeding, I know you will. I am not pleased with the esthetics of mine either. I keep working on it as the instructor, then logging off and looking at it as a student or principal viewing the Wiki. I used PBWorks.com too, I’m not thrilled with it, but I will do a final cleanup; delete any pages I will not be using from the Navigation Scroll this week and moving some content to another page.
ReplyDeleteHang in there, I think it looks great. Try deleting pages you haven’t used. I look forward to viewing your Prezi. Your project is a wonderful and inspiration.
With your frustration for creating a wiki and curriculum page, I'd have to say it turned out GREAT! I love how it is easy to follow and flows very nicely. The rubric you included is very helpful for students to use as a guide and for them to have it at their fingertips!
ReplyDeleteWhen linking pages to pages in your Wiki, I too am still trying to figure it out! I also decided to leave it alone and leave it the way it is.
Also, I like that you worked in a program that was familiar to your like Word and then copy and pasted it into your Wiki. What a great idea! At least there are some ways you can feel ease when working on these projects!
I love your idea for your project and enjoyed exploring your curriculum page!
I definitely understand your pain with this assignment. It is a learning experience for all of us. It was hard to create the links and pages together. This was most difficult because we had to do our own google search for most of this assignment. I liked how you included a digital storytelling example for the students to see a visual representation. This is a great way for them to see how they can create their own project and run away with their thoughts and ideas. I think that you did an excellent job with your curriculum page. Looking at the final product, it did not seem like you had any difficulty with this assignment. Thank you!
